Measure the scope, not a promised price
Use approximate length and width to describe the area. For an irregular patio, sketch its sections rather than forcing it into one rectangle. Photograph the boundary between the portion to remove and the portion to keep.
Thickness and reinforcement affect the work, but neither should be guessed from a surface photo. If an edge is already safely visible, photograph it. Otherwise say the thickness is unknown and let Sandlot decide whether an in-person assessment is needed.
Distinguish breaking from haul-off
If concrete is already broken, show the pile from more than one angle and give rough dimensions. State whether brick, soil, lumber or other debris is mixed in. A ready-to-load pile is a different scope from breaking an intact slab.
If a shed or other structure sits on the concrete, include it explicitly. Decide whether footings, posts or attached sections should remain. Do not assume removal of a structure automatically includes everything below it.
Show what surrounds the work
Send a view of nearby walls, foundations, fences, plants and access gates. Measure the narrowest opening on the route to loading, and identify steps, slopes or overhead restrictions. These details help the team assess how material can be handled.
Explain any known irrigation, buried services or previous modifications. Resolve utility locating, structural questions and any required approvals before disturbance. Do not cut or test the slab yourself just to make the estimate more precise.
Define what happens after the concrete leaves
Ask what debris and cleanup are included and what surface will remain. If another contractor will pour new concrete or install landscaping, confirm the preparation they need. Concrete removal does not by itself promise a new slab, a drainage design or certified grading.
For scheduling, share the next contractor’s target date and wait for Sandlot to confirm its appointment. The free estimate depends on the actual scope and access. The real backyard gallery is a visual reference for material removal, not a price or timetable for your job.
